What is prostate artery embolization?
Prostate artery embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive treatment used to reduce the size of an enlarged prostate without entering the urethra. It offers comparable outcomes to the symptom relief achieved with surgery1 but without the risk and potential for sexual side effects.
The procedure works by decreasing blood flow to the prostate gland. During PAE, a physician makes a tiny puncture in either the wrist or groin artery and guides a small catheter through the blood vessels to the arteries that supply the prostate.
